Abstract

This study aims to examine the readiness of the technical infrastructure of the Palestine Exchange and its listed public shareholding companies to apply Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL), and to clarify the expected effects of XBRL adoption on the relevance and reliability of published financial reporting data. By focusing on transparency, access to information, and informed decision‑making, the study situates XBRL within an applied humanities perspective that links financial reporting to societal trust, accountability, and public interest.  The study employs a descriptive–analytical method on a sample of financial managers and external auditors of public shareholding companies listed on the Palestine Exchange. A total of 45 questionnaires were distributed, of which 39 were returned and analyzed. The results show that the technical infrastructure of the Palestine Exchange and the listed public shareholding companies is ready for the application of XBRL. The findings also indicate that applying XBRL increases the relevance of published financial reporting data to the decision‑making processes of various users of financial statements and reports, thereby enhancing transparency and the quality of information available to stakeholders.  The study recommends that the management of the Palestine Exchange adopt XBRL as a strategic project to promote transparency, strengthen public confidence, and increase the efficiency and social accountability of the Palestinian capital market.
