Abstract

Cities today are increasingly challenged by the dual pressures of mobility inefficiency and declining urban visual quality, particularly in rapidly expanding contexts such as Amman, Jordan. Wasfi Al Tal Street, as one of the city’s primary commercial corridors, exemplifies these challenges through persistent traffic congestion and a high degree of visual pollution resulting from fragmented and unregulated signage. This study explores the potential of interactive kiosks as an integrated urban intervention aimed at improving mobility and reorganizing the visual environment. Rather than relying on empirical data collection, the research adopts a conceptual and scenario-based approach, grounded in a critical review of literature, analysis of comparable international case studies, and contextual interpretation of the study area. Through this framework, the study examines how centralized digital information systems can enhance wayfinding, support more efficient traffic distribution, and contribute to a more coherent and visually balanced streetscape. The findings highlight the role of interactive kiosks not only as technological tools, but as urban design elements capable of restructuring the relationship between movement, information, and visual perception. The study ultimately proposes a set of design and planning considerations for integrating such systems within the urban fabric of Amman, contributing to ongoing discussions on smart mobility and sustainable urban development in similar contexts.
