Abstract

This study investigated the levels of emotional cutoff, double bind communication, and feigned affection among Jordanian wives who utilize family reform offices in religious courts. Employing a descriptive and predictive approach, data were collected from a sample of 130 wives in Amman. Results indicated an “average” level of emotional cutoff, a “high” level of double bind communication, and a “medium” level of feigned affection. Furthermore, double bind communication and feigned affection were found to significantly predict emotional cutoff. No significant difference in emotional cutoff was observed based on educational attainment; however, a significant difference was found based on marriage duration. The study recommends premarital counseling programs to promote healthy marital relationships and prevent future emotional severance. These programs could be implemented by various institutions.
